4-Days Librarian Development Programme on Open Source Content Management Software Joomla & Digital Repository Software DSpace was recently organized by Information Resource Centre, Integrated Academy of Management and Technology in Collaboration with Management Libraries Network (MANLIBNET) at INMANTEC Campus Ghaziabad on 15th-18th February, 2018.
In the inaugural session Dr. N N Pandey delivered the Welcome address. He stressed upon importance and need of using Open source software. Dr. Akhtar Parvez , University Librarian, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad was the Chief Guest of the LDP (Librarian Development Programme ). Dr. Akhtar Parvez elaborated why the Open Source Software is the need of the hour. According to him Library fraternity is fascinated to open source technology not only due to its free availability, but due to its attractive Philosophy. He said that LIS fraternity must take a prompt step to go ahead with adoption of Open Source Software Koha. The Organizing Secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar presented the introductory remarks about the Joomla & DSpace.
Mr. D P Tripathi, Assistant Librarian, NIT Raourkela was the main resource Person of this LDP. He trained the participants on how to install Joomla and Dspace and gave useful tips about its installation process.
Chief Guest of the Valedictory Dr. Dr. Jamal Ahmad Siddiqui, HOD, DLIS, CCS University, Meerut told the participant about the relevance of Open source in Present Scenario. He also mentioned that this type of LDP is very useful for the library fraternity and thanks Organizer for conducting these types of Librarian fraternity Development Programme frequently. Dr. Rajesh Kumar Librarian and Organizing Secretary of the LDP thanked all the participants and proposed the Vote of Thanks. Whole gamut of this LDP was to make aware the participants about the emerging trends of Joomla & D Space Open Source software’s and its implementation in libraries.
