Information Resource Center
Information Resource Center (IRC) of INMANTEC is fully computerized with the help of Libguru library management software. The IRC delivers user focused innovative information products, services and programs of the highest quality that are integrated with teaching, learning and research activities. The collection of the library covers latest information resources on all areas of Management, Information Technology, Law and Education. The center occupies a unique place in academic and research activities of the institute. The IRC maintains publication exchange program of the institute with regional, international, national, foreign institutions and organizations. The library services include Internet service, Online database searching facility, CD-ROM service, Reprography Service and Inter Library Loan Service.
About the Workshop Theme
World over, libraries are constantly facing challenges to meet the ever increasing expectations of users due to lack of funds. Therefore, it is high time that libraries upgrade their services and systems using innovative approaches and making use of latest technology to fulfill ever increasing users’ expectations. Open source software for automation and modernization of services offers a great opportunity for librarians and has come handy in meeting users’ expectations.
KOHA is the first open-source Integrated Library System (ILS) developed in 1999 by Katipo communications, New Zealand. Koha is web based multilingual Integrated Library System designed to cater automation needs of medium to large libraries. It is a customizable open source software (OSS). According to a survey there were approximately 140 libraries around the world using koha since as early as 2007, including 30 in North America. Koha satisfies all the functional requirements of a library management system. It is full featured MARC based integrated library system and is constantly upgraded according to the changing technology requirements.
Objectives of the Workshop are:-
- 1. To equip Librarians with new skills and knowledge of the nascent IT development which are essential for providing better library services to the users
- 2. To maintain and enhance library services
- 3. To help participants in understanding the Open source Software Koha to automate their libraries and upgrade their services quality
The proposed Workshop on Koha will help the LIS Professionals to automate their libraries using open source software KOHA free of cost and raise the standards of libraries in the eyes of stakeholders.
